In late 2025, one of our environmental consulting customers was kind enough to share a photo of a DusTech XPI dust monitoring station they purchased from Alpha Scientific for monitoring dust levels and air quality in a school ground. The DusTech XPI was chosen due to its excellent value for money, easy deployment in the field and cloud based data collection and alerting.

The air students breathe at school has a direct impact on how well they learn, feel, and stay healthy. Because children’s lungs and brains are still developing, they’re especially sensitive to poor air quality. When classrooms have high levels of pollutants, like dust, mold, or carbon dioxide, students are more likely to experience headaches, fatigue, asthma flare-ups, and difficulty concentrating.

Good indoor air quality supports better attendance and stronger academic performance. Proper ventilation, regular maintenance of HVAC systems, and the use of low-emission cleaning and building materials can significantly reduce airborne pollutants. Even simple steps, like opening windows when possible or monitoring CO₂ levels, can make a meaningful difference.

Investing in clean air at school isn’t just a facilities issue, it’s a health and equity issue. Every student deserves a learning environment that helps them thrive, and clean air is a foundational part of that environment
