Alpha Scientific is proud to be a gold sponsor of the 21st International Conference on Nucleation and Atmospheric Aerosols (ICNAA), which is being held at QUT in Brisbane from June 26th to 30th, 2023. It has been terrific catching up with our fellow sponsors, our customers and visitors from all around the world. The conference features a wide variety of guest speakers from Australia and abroad and covers many interesting topics.
The conference focused on the formation, transformation and impacts of atmospheric aerosol particles, tiny solid or liquid particles suspended in air. Aerosols are important because they affect:
- Cloud formation: aerosol particles can act as seeds around which cloud droplets and ice particles form
- Climate: aerosols influence how much solar radiation reaches Earth’s surface and how clouds behave
- Air quality and health: particles from traffic, industry, biomass burning and other sources can affect human exposure
- Atmospheric chemistry: gases can react and form new particles, a process called new particle formation (NPF)
- Weather and precipitation: aerosol–cloud interactions can influence cloud lifetime and rainfall
Alpha Scientific showcased its expertise and wide range of measurement technologies at the conference and took part in some excellent discussions and meetings with stakeholders. QUT reported more than 140 leading atmospheric scientists attending, while QUT’s later annual report recorded over 150 delegates from 20 countries. There were 100 oral presentations, including four plenaries, and 80 poster presentations.
